Fun [Fact] Friday: Tamani

Who has read Wings and Spells by Aprilynne Pike? I have! I love those novels and I can’t wait for the third book, Illusion, to release.

Anyways, one of the characters in the books is Tamani. When I first read the novels I thought his name was pronounced like this:

(^Think of the ‘mon’ as the word ‘on’ with an ‘m’ sound)

I was lucky enough to have a conversation with Aprilynne Pike. His name is really pronounced:

(^’Tam’ rhymes with ‘yam’)

Haha did you pronounce his name right?!

Fun [Fact] Friday: Breathless Authors

Last Wednesday, the authors did a Q&A for the audience. So I jotted down some facts about the authors I don’t think any of us knew before…

Did you know…?

  • Matched and Across the Universe were originally supposed to be a standalone novel.
  • Ansel in Nightshade is based on Andrea’s little brother.
  • The Ourboroughs Society (from the Eternal Ones) went through 6+ different names before Kirsten finalized the name.
  • The word frex (from Across the Universe) means Financial Research of Exchange in our world. Beth thought it would be natural word for the characters to develop into a ‘curse.’ It is in exchange for today’s ‘F’ word.
  • Ally Condie loves Unicorns.
  • Kirsten Miller loves blowing things up.
  • Kirsten, Andrea and Ally all agree that the first line of a novel is the hardest to write. Brenna says that the last line is harder. Beth says the first is fun and the last it satisfying.

Fun Fridays: One Word

Fun Fridays: One Word

Have you ever tried making up stories with your friends? Yeah, well this take on it brings it the next level up.

All you need is a pen and paper, and friends to make up an amusing story. It doesn’t always have to be amusing, but most of the time it ends up that way xD This version is different though. Start with one person and have them only write one word. Then pass it around, having each person only write one word. Build a story from that and see where it goes.

Yeah. Things get pretty interesting when you’re only able to write one word down.

The best part about this game is that you can do it anywhere. Don’t have paper and pen? No problem! Ipod touches have a notepad where you can type your story up. You can text the story back and forth, or even say it out loud.  It’s easy to play and you don’t need a certain amount of time. Play it while waiting for a table at a restaurant or on the bus. Be creative and have fun!

Two of my friends and I waited a half and hour to eat one night at Applebee’s, and here’s the story that we came up with (Please excuse the grammar issues). It ended up not really becoming a story though…

In my bed there are pig intestines. Yum. Gross! “Why are they moving?!” Poking pigs, I stifle tears while yodeling songs.

“You are weird!”

“So are boys :)”

Kicking the guy in the balls, he cursed like bananas and cream.

“Hell yea!”

Monkeys doing drugs are so funky. But they fly in cars and submarines. They text too. They were rainbow colored! Poop was on their heads. That’s so amusing. They taste like candy 😉 Panties on my head! Stripes are smexy. Oh my potatoes!  I lurve your bras.

I rip a toilet in the middle of the street! I hop up and don’t come down! That’s not natural! Twinkles are for everyone except Teresa! WTF?!?! You know you love me!!!!! NO. I DON’T. I HOPE U DIE. Omg I’m going to go cry now I hope your happy!!!!

The walrus sings at midnight. Literally.

Hahahaha I get that!! And other people don’t. Hahaha sucks to be them!!!!

Spazzle Dazzle! The duck goes moo. I go quack.

Wait so are you a cow I’m confused!!

I live in a donut hut!

Yeah, I know, that was pretty interesting. But this is what happens when three teenagers are bored at like 10:30 at night waiting for a table. Haha ! So go make a story and post them! I’d love to read them all!

Happy Friday !

Fun Fridays: Cooking (Easy Bubble Bun Recipe)

Fun Fridays: Cooking (Bubble Bun Recipe)

It’s been a great week featuring Suzanne Selfors’s amazing book! My last post is a recipe. Yum! Cause who doesn’t like cookies? I was originally going to post a Snicker doodle recipe, but unfortunately I couldn’t find it in my parents recipe folder. So instead I pulled out a recipe for these things called Bubble Buns! Sound interesting? Yeah, well they’re pretty delicious so I insist you cook them.

Easy Bubble Buns

  • Measuring cups
  • Waxed Paper
  • Muffin Tin
  • Cupcake Liners
  • sandwich plate
  • Bowl (to melt butter in)
  • Oven mitts
  • Tongs

  • 1 package refrigerated biscuits
  • 10 marshmallows
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1/4 cup cinnamon sugar mixture

Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees. Measure 1/4 cup cinnamon sugar mixture into a sandwich plate. Melt butter in microwave for 30 seconds. Place 10 cupcake liners in muffin tin.

Separate dough into 10 pieces on waxed paper. Flatten each piece of dough into a circle. Place each marshmallow in the center of the flattened dough. Pull dough up around the marshmallow and pinch to close. Holding the pinched end, dip the bun into the butter and then coat with cinnamon sugar. Place in muffin pan, pinched side down.

Bake 10-12 minutes. Remove carefully from pan with tongs and let cool on a cooling rack.
