Best Books of 2011

I cannot believe 2011 is coming to an end, yet at the same time I can believe. So much has happened in the past year, including my blog change. I hope 2011 was a good year for you and that 2012 will be better. I want to thank you. Thank you for subscribing, commenting, and visiting my blog. Without you guys (and the blogging community) my love for books wouldn’t have turned into this. Thanks for sticking with me another year!

I’m excited for 2012! (Did you know that 2012 is the year of the dragon?) Do you guys have any resolutions? I don’t… but I’m sure I’ll come up with something eventually. Anyways, because 2012 is coming it’s time to highlight my favorites of the year! The books that I’m posting are what I think were the bests of this year.

Best Books of 2011

Divergent by Veronica Roth

In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she’s chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she’s kept hidden from everyone because she’s been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves… or it might destroy her.

Why it’s on this list:

I heard amazing things about this book but didn’t get to read it until my friend gave me the book and wouldn’t let me give it back to her until I read it. The summary hadn’t jumped out at me when I read it so it wasn’t a must-read. I quickly fell into Beatrice’s world. I was really curious about the way this dystopian worked and I’m not joking when I say that everything in this book interested me. Although this book reminded me of other books, I also found it to be original. There are really no other words to explain how much I enjoyed this book; when you read it, you’ll understand.

The Probability of Miracles by Wendy Wunder

Dry, sarcastic, sixteen-year-old Cam Cooper has spent the last seven years in and out hospitals. The last thing she wants to do in the short life she has left is move 1,500 miles away to Promise, Maine – a place known for the miraculous events that occur there. But it’s undeniable that strange things happen in Promise: everlasting sunsets; purple dandelions; flamingoes in the frigid Atlantic; an elusive boy named Asher; and finally, a mysterious envelope containing a list of things for Cam to do before she dies. As Cam checks each item off the list, she finally learns to believe – in love, in herself, and even in miracles.

Why it’s on my list:

I love Cam. She is nothing like me, and I think that’s why I love her. While reading, I sighed in disappointment when she made certain decisions that I would never make. Cam is frightened, yet fearless. Life is all about living and I really believe Cam started to live when she made the decision to complete her bucket list. I desperately want to explore the world around me and live outside my comfort zone and Cam does that even though things aren’t going great for her. The story plot and other characters are also great, which is the reason this novel makes my list.

Eona: The Last Dragoneye by Alison Goodman

Eon has been revealed as Eona, the first female Dragoneye in hundreds of years. Along with fellow rebels Ryko and Lady Dela, she is on the run from High Lord Sethon’s army. The renegades are on a quest for the black folio, stolen by the drug-riddled Dillon; they must also find Kygo, the young Pearl Emperor, who needs Eona’s power and the black folio if he is to wrest back his throne from the selfstyled “Emperor” Sethon. Through it all, Eona must come to terms with her new Dragoneye identity and power-and learn to bear the anguish of the ten dragons whose Dragoneyes were murdered. As they focus their power through her, she becomes a dangerous conduit for their plans. . . .

I’ve patiently waited two years for this sequel to release. The first book is amazing, the sequel is amazing, and I’ve come to the conclusion that Alison Goodman is amazing. Eona is really long but every word is worth it. The plot is detailed, original, and mind-boggling. Eona is also a kick-ass character, which makes the book that much better. I think that the world of Eona is one of the best fantasy worlds, which is why it makes my list.

Do any of these books make your list? What books are on your list?

Best Books

I bet you are all waiting for this one ^_^ This is my last Best post, and of course I saved the best for last! Here are the top three books I have read this year. These books have come out before or in 2010. A lot of people tell you to comment with your faves of the year, and every single time I answered with one of these three. You all should definitely check them out if you have not read them!

Beauty by Robin McKinley

Truth be told, I haven’t even finished this book. But I am so close to ending that I doubt I’ll be dissapointed with the ending. This story is a re-telling of Beauty and the Beast. Robin McKinley does such a phenomenal job. The writing is enchanting and the story pulls you in. I really do feel like I’m in the fairytale.

The Clearing by Heather Davis

With me bawling my eyes out, the ending is what really got me. Not only is the idea of the novel something like no other, it really is a beautiful, touching read.

The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks

Helloooo Nicholas Sparks! Can you please write me a boyfriend?! Gah. This was the second book I have read by him, and I couldn’t help but feel every emotion the characters felt. I laughed, cried and understood their pain. I question whether or not he is actually making his stories up…

So tell me, what are your favorite novels of the year?! C’mon, I know you have some!

Best Memories

Every year there are always those moments that stand out to you. I am really thankful to say that there are quite a few memories I have. So here are a few!

Meeting Allstar Weekend

I’ve seen them twice in concert and each time I have a ton of fun! Not to mention the four members are the sweetest, funniest guys ever! Allstar Weekend has amazing music and they are really good people. You can’t help but love them ❤

Finishing NaNoWriMo

Really, 2,000 words a day doesn’t seem like that much when you hear about it, but it really is when you are writing. I started the month off with friends who were attempting to reach the goal. The month was torture. With school, activities, reading and other things I frequently stayed up late to reach the word goal. In the end I ended up getting to 50 thousand words a day early. I am so proud of myself ! ^_^

Penguin Insiders

Yeah. Totally flipped when I found out. There are about twenty-something of us and I feel really special to be in this group. We’ve only had one meeting but another one is scheduled in January. I’ve met some great people and really am thankful for this opportunity. It’s REALLY cool to be in a conference room in a publishing building in NYC.

Also my parents are really happy to see me in this. We are the first group that Penguin has started, so I’m honored to be a guinea pig. I know there are great things to come!

Best Songs

It’s Monday! So today is all about music. Here are my top three best songs of the year. Each of these songs came out in 2010!

Number 3: Feelin Alive by the Jonas Brothers

Whenever I listen to this song, it brings back memories of the summer. I attend a bunch of concerts and do so many memorable things with my friends that I wish it was summer all of the time. I make the best of the moment. This song is about letting the worries go for the night and have the time of your life. For me it’s uplifting and brings a smile everytime I listen to it.

Number 2: Here With You by Allstar Weekend

This song is actually older than it appears. I’m one of the earlier Allstar Weekend fans, so I know the old version and the new version. The newer version was recently released on their new album Suddenly Yours. It’s my favorite song by them. First, I love Zach’s voice. Also the lyrics are so sweet. It’s catchy and gets stuck in my head all of the time (which is a good thing). Me being a fangirl that is in love with a ton of celebrities, I always dream about spending the day with all these stars. And the whole poster analogy reminds me of my love for all the guy celebs I’m in love with (Jonas Brothers, Allstar Weekend, etc). Favorite line in the song is “You’re taped to my wall like you’re glued to my brain.”

Number 1: Enchanted by Taylor Swift

Honestly, this song beat out every other one I had listened to this year. I love Taylor Swift. And at first I actually didn’t like this song that much. To me it was too repetitive and I don’t always go for the slower songs. But I put it on and really listened to the lyrics and fell in love with it. This song tells a story that keeps you wondering at the end. It’s not happy-ever-after; it’s reality.

It tells about a girl who meets a guy and is enchanted to meet him and so she spends all her time wondering about him. She never ends up seeing the guy again in the song and I think that is what really touches me. I feel that a lot of girls are in that position. Being enchanted could be something from a harmless crush to love, but that feeling is there. I can put this song on repeat and listen to it all day without getting bored. Taylor captures my emotion every single time it plays, and that’s when you know it’s a great song.

Yeah, as you can tell I listen to the more innocent-Disney-cookie cutter stuff. But that’s fine with me. Most of you snickered when looking at this post and that is fine with me. So tell me, what are your fave songs for the year?
